New Tampa is a suburban area on the north side of Tampa, Florida. Most of the neighborhood is in the Lower Hillsborough Wilderness Reserve. New Tampa is described as alive and contemporary, and it is easy to see why. Most of the restaurants and shops in New Tampa are on Bruce B. Downs Boulevard, the city’s main street. It is a busy street with everything within walking distance. The homes in New Tampa are predominantly single-family homes and townhouses.

Local Lifestyle

New Tampa has a vibrant shopping district with endless shopping. New Tampa is surrounded by golf courses, nature parks, and a wildlife reserve. Any given day can consist of a trip to the golf course for a quick nine holes followed by a delicious meal downtown. Or the day can begin with shopping downtown followed by a hike through the reserve to cap off the night watching the sunset and indulging in the views. New Tampa was annexed by Tampa in 1988, but it retains its own identity and sense of community while having the amenities a metropolitan city has to offer. The center of New Tampa is its main street on Bruce B. Downs Boulevard. Bordering New Tampa are two golf courses on either end of town and the Lower Hillsborough Wilderness Reserve that encompasses the Southeast.
 

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

There are a couple of local food favorites in the area such as Grain and Berry and Michi Ramen. Grain and Berry has bowls with bases such as açaí, pitaya, spirulina, or yogurt. You can then add toppings and fruits from an endless menu. It is vegan-friendly! Michi Ramen has traditional Chinese dishes as well as custom ramen bowls. It is a town favorite. The Shoppes at New Tampa offers everyday shopping staples.
 
With everything from community parks to wildlife reserves, New Tampa is a nature lover’s paradise. You can go on day hikes through the Lower Hillsborough Wildlife Reserve with its 60 miles worth of forested trails. The reserve also encompasses the Hillsborough River, which provides access to fishing, kayaking, canoeing, and snorkeling. Other activities that can be enjoyed at the reserve involve birding, hunting, inline skating, camping, and equestrian activities. The whole area is ADA accessible as well. Some of Florida’s natural springs are located here too. The springs have crystal clear waters allowing for amazing snorkeling opportunities and fishing. The area is dog friendly, so bring your furry best friend along for the day.
 

Things to Do

There are two golf courses within the city limits of New Tampa, Tampa Palms Golf and Country Club and Heritage Isles Golf and Country Club. Tampa Palms is a private country club with an Arthur Hills Signature Audubon Certified Sanctuary Golf Course. You may not find a more beautiful place to play golf. Tampa Palms has children’s programs for golf and tennis. It is a luxurious club with amenities for the whole family. 
 
There are multiple community and city parks within the area. The New Tampa Nature Park has a rock-climbing wall and a zipline. Tampa Palms River Park has hiking trails along the river as well as picnic areas and volleyball courts. Lower Hillsborough Wilderness Reserve offers numerous picnic areas as well as 60 miles of hiking trails and river access for fishing and boating.

New Tampa is in the Hillsborough County Public School district.
